* Faculty Rights and Responsibilities During Student Strike

The SCFA Executive Board sent the following message to all Senate faculty on February 7, 2020 in response to the announcement that the graduate students would begin an open-ended strike on Monday, February 10, 2020.

Dear Colleagues,

Faculty members have individual rights and responsibilities under HEERA in the event of an open-ended strike by grad students. Open-ended labor actions are different from ones for a specified amount of time. Faculty who choose not to cross picket lines during an open-ended strike are individually responsible for notifying their departments that they intend to resume their duties as soon as picketing concludes. Respecting a picket line is not the same as abandoning duties, and individual faculty members can make their intention clear by notifying their departments before choosing their course of action.

SCFA is not calling for a sympathy strike, or for any other action by Faculty. SCFA is only committed to providing information to faculty regarding their rights and responsibilities during an open-ended grad student strike. Faculty with specific questions or concerns should not hesitate to send an email to the SCFA assistant listing a phone number and good times for one of us to call.

Sincerely
The SCFA Executive Board
