RE: AIR and Senate Faculty Teaching Capacity/Expectations

Dear Pat,

SCFA understands that the AIR budget model makes reference to “undergraduate teaching expectations
per Senate teaching faculty.” In the draft model we have seen, one way this is presented in the
following table:

UG FTE expectations per Senate faculty FTE ProfTeaching Prof
Arts17.555
BSOE1575
Humanities17.555
PBSci1575
SocSci17.555
WritingN/A10.5

SCFA would like to better understand how this table relates to actual teaching norms (current and
historical) in the divisions. Therefore, we request the following information.

1. What has been the mean annual UG FTE (not including summer) actually taught by Senate
faculty in the Prof. series in each division since the 2005-2006 academic year?

2. What has been the mean annual UG FTE (not including summer) actually taught by Senate
faculty in the LSOE/Teaching Professor series in each division since the 2005-2006 academic
year?

As the Writing program is treated separately in the AIR model, we ask that you also treat it separately in
providing this information (i.e. one set of numbers for the rest of the Humanities division and one set of
numbers specifically for the Writing program).

Thank you in advance.

Sincerely,
Steve McKay and Jessica Taft
