In July, the SCFA filed an unfair labor practice (ULP) charge against UCSC for 1) prohibiting an instructor from holding office hours at the UAW picket line and 2) banning the SCFA from participating in faculty department meetings. Following a December settlement hearing with the Public Employment Relations Board, we now have good news to report: the University has agreed with SCFA’s positions that 1) faculty have the right to hold office hours at the time and place of their choosing and 2) departments may invite SCFA representatives to attend workplace meetings.
When the administration oversteps their authority or attempts to violate our rights as faculty, SCFA is here and prepared to respond.
