Christopher Newfield is one of the country’s most important writers on higher education. He is the author of Unmaking the Public University: The Forty-Year Assault on the Middle Class (Harvard, 2011) and Ivy and Industry: Business and the Making of the American University, 1880-1980 (Duke, 2004). His latest book is The Great Mistake: How We Wrecked Public Universities and How We Can Fix Them (Johns Hopkins 2016). He publishes often in the
