* Fall 2021-2022 Reopening

Please see the below letter to EVC Kletzer about fall teaching, sent jointly by SCFA, UC-AFT (the lecturers’ union), and UAW 2865 (the TA’s union). Linked here is the Senate Executive Committee’s letter on this topic, which we echo in our letter.

Lori Kletzer
Campus Provost and
Executive Vice Chancellor
University of California, Santa Cruz

Dear Lori,

The SCFA, AFT, and UAW want to add our strong endorsement to the attached letter from the Senate Executive Committee advocating maximum individual flexibility for senate faculty, lecturers, graduate student instructors, and teaching assistants for Fall 2021. The SEC letter details a range of factors that could impact ability to teach in-person classes or sections in the fall. Given that individuals’ planning for the coming year is already well underway, a clear signal of the administration’s flexible policy would be the just and humane thing to do, particularly given the considerable extra demands placed on all of us over the past year.
Sincerely,

Chris Connery, Debbie Gould, Ronnie Lipschutz (SCFA Co-Chairs)
Josh Brahinsky, Joy Hagen, Roxi Power (Co-Chairs, UC-AFT Santa Cruz)
Jack Davies (Unit Chair, UAW 2865 Santa Cruz)
